The solution

Profusa is initiating a DARPA (research arm of the Department of defense) – funded study to see if its sensor injected under the skin can detect the coronavirus 3 weeks before the sickness. Fluctuations in tissue oxygen level could indicate that a person is getting sick. It could also use heart rate levels or other bio markers to build the algorithm. The sensor transmits information to a smartphone or other devices. They hope to release the results in early 2021.

How can it help to manage the COVID-19 pandemic?

Thanks to these study results, Profusa can give some insight about the early detection of a virus, notably coronavirus. This study can be useful in the future, should the world has to face another sanitary crisis or epidemic episode.
